What plugin do i use for importing those ASCII and raw models into blender? smd is for skeleton, i get that much. But everything else is a mistery for me.

I tried renaming ascii to obj because both look very simmillar, but no luck.

They are floating point images, to keep wide range brightness values of the sky.
If you need, then you can convert them to some other format. But note that usual 8-bit image formats are not suitable for that.
Thanks,
I should have figured it out but Im' bouncing between playing around with this and other stuff.

I've done everything and successfully extracted an environment map, but can anyone share the best way to open the ascii file in blender 2.82?
edit:solved (xps/ascii plugin for blender)

thanks for the tool!

Hi, daemon1 tool is amazing but i still not understand how perfectly maps extraction works, or well, I managed to get some sceneries, but are incomplete, I always have a missed models error, and I missed blueprint.db
What i did:
1 with umodel I extracted from paks, ALL the content of environments and sceneries folders (uassets, uexp and ubulk)
2 placed all these extracted files in one folder (around 100.000 files)
3 launched ff7rem.exe tool (it extracted all good, created folders and the material.db file)
I open a .layout umap file with the tool, but nothing.
Can you please write detailled steps to make this works?

Thank you in advance

**Nevermind. I did it!!!

Sorry, I am new to this. Where do you get the game data from to use the tool with? Do you need to get the data from the Bluray disc to your computer?

Thank you for the tool! It's my first time trying to extract models. I'm trying to extract the Church, but I'm not getting the .umap or blueprint files. Am I doing something wrong?

I make it work in this way:
1 with umodel I saved NOT extracted from paks, ALL the content of environments and sceneries and blueprint folders (uassets, uexp and ubulk)
2 placed all these extracted files in one folder (around 100.000 files)
3 launched ff7rem.exe tool (it extracted all good, created folders and the material.db and blueprint.db files)
4 with umodel I saved the umap i want ( located in: level--> game-->field-->*subfoldernameyouchoose*-->LAYOUT not LAYOUTMERGE)
5 dropped the umap into the tool, all was converted good (only some errors regarding materials but that is normal since the game use shaders only on some models, like lights etc.
6 I put the generetad mesh.ascii in the textures folder
NOTE: I previously converted ALL the FF7rem tool generated DDS textures in PNG format.
7 Imported the mesh ascii in blender using this script: https://www.deviantart.com/johnzero7/jo ... -834572824

You dont have to do that. Tool will properly use all of the files in its directory and all subfolders (as its said in description)

Aerith's home is legit one of my fav in the game
So glad I did it.

Somethings are missing like lamps and stuff but eh it's not noticeable for a daytime map.

Lighting is too plain and direct for the render.
