It means you will be publish a MGS4 tool maybe? I want to translate all MGS game, almost all solved, just MGS4 encryption is mystery for me. If I can help you to finish the tool with samples, testing, anything, let me know.

Thank you!
If you explore the files, you can find something, like the texts, without external tools.
Not everything readable. I think 90% of texts are compressed into encrypted files, and if not encrypted, still need a text tool to edit them, but I can solve this issue, IF one day there is a way to decrypt the files. (Maybe MGS4 can read decrypted files, I hope, and then no need even encrypt tool either.)

At the moment i don't explore the files in MGS4 because i'm not interested in it, but in the others (except two) the texts are not encrypted.

I'm not planning on publishing any tools but I may be able to help you with providing resources and packing stuff back into game. Making MGS 4 translation could be an interesting experience.

PS. From MGS4's stage05.dat:

Most MGS4 files are not encrypted, just in it's own format, though I'm pretty sure some of the .dats are encrypted.
MGO2 files on the other hand, are encrypted.
I think you got confused with the filename hashing, which someone said was the same for MGS3 and MGS4 (and GZ?) somewhere.

I believe a lot of text is stored somehow in the scenerio.gcx files (like urls and menu strings), but right now it's just a guess. I haven't looked into it too much lately. I'm not too sure what is actually stored in most of the dats, but perhaps the subtitles are stored along with the cutscene files, though I don't know how other games like MGS3 stored their subtitles in that sense.

And there are all kinds of silly images hidden in the files, pic related (but it got kinda blurry).

At the moment i can extract all audios from MGS4, so nop, BGM and VOX aren't encrypted, but other files i don't know.

Extracted or converted? I thought all MGS4 audio was in it's own weird MTA2 format that no one has been able to crack yet.

It is, I imagine he means extracted. I've looked at some of the Sony docs for their audio library, if I put it to use hopefully I could figure out something.

P.S. Someone just posted in the thread I made on HCS's site yesterday. 8D Hopefully we can figure it out.

P.S. 2. I keep feeling like I'm kinda derailing this thread every time I post. :(

I post in this thread, i was talking with hcs and he told me the very best i can do it's write in his forum if any can help me. Like I say in the thread, i think i can do the conversor, but i don't know how to compile in c. I made my own tools with ruby to extract files from metal gear saga, but with this language i can't convert anything. If any can help me i think we can do a tool for that format. At the moment, the best we can do it's examine the vox's MTA2, because BGM are tiny different. The MTA2 audio in DBM files I don't learn yet.

Anyway, this is off topic for this thread.
