I was thinking more in the line for filenames where the name is a hash of some sort -- signed numbers don't really work well for that.

Don't ask me about localization tools; if you don't have the resources to develop them yourself you don't need them.

uhmmm depends by what you want to do and "how" you do because I have already worked with various hashes without problems but I guess you refer to something else, so show me an example.

It's cumbersome to work with filenames that were made into signed numbers from a hash value, that's all. I'd rather they were in hex for sorting purposes.
