Most of all textures and text files. I want to make a hungarian translation. I can import with my own hands the uncompressed files, but this is too time-consuming and complicated.

Model Format

Post by Surveyor »

Hi there!
I got my hands lately on a DMC4 ARC extractor called RPGViewer and I have to tell that the
file formats are almost identical to those used by the Lostplanet, it was very easy to figure out the file formats (some of them hehehe) given that I already made numerous programs to export Lostplanet models.
Here are some pics from both (Dmc & LP), more is still to come, Enjoy!!

Devil May Cry 4

I haven't used forum posts for ages, that's why the second pic didn't appear, I don't know why, ... anyways..

Yes, not only Lostplanet tools will be soon available but also DMC4's since the file formats are almost the same, even the source code will be available for those interrested and of course the work is in progress.

Programs

Post by Surveyor »

I have a question: why can't I attach more than one file? when I select the file, nothing happens.

Since I can only post one file at a time I'll post this:
LostplanetArc: an extractor for LostPlanet (PC version of course), it will batch extract all the .arc files of the game with a single click (I'm saving you the trouble of typing the filenames :).

all you need to do is place the program in the nativePC directory of the game then it will automatically scan the subfolders for .arc files and extract them, this will take about 30 minutes to complete (extract the whole game archives).

Unlike other .arc extractors available out there, this program gives the extracted files an extension making them easier to distinguish (textures, models, ...) those extensions are based on the file headers and ARC header info.

Coming soon:
- Lostplanet Texture converter
- DMC4 texture converter
.. and more

Hi, here's some other programs for DMC4 & Lostplanet

DMC4Extract
this program will give the files extracted from DMC4 (PC) using the RPGViewer3 tool an extension based on the file header (ex: nameXYZ --> nameXYZ.tex or nameXYZ.mod). just put it in the upper directory and let do its work.

LostplanetTex
a Tex -> DDS converter for Lostplanet, the original TEX files will be replaced by the DDS files, I use WTV (Woody's Texture Viewer), makes it easy to view/browse DDS files. since there are too many texture files to handle in a single shot, it may be necessary to put the converter not in the root directory (nativePC) but in the child directories (ZZPack1 then ZZPack2 ...)

Dmc4Tex
the same as the LostplanetTex but for DMC4, the only difference is that DXT5 textures are no longer supported (changed format) so these file are left untouched until a later release, but there aren't so many of them (dxt5 files).

remark: both LostPlanetTex and DMC4Tex can't handle cubemap textures.

So to recap:
Lostplanet:
- extract the files using LostPlanetArc.exe
- Convert textures using LostPlanetTex.exe

DMC4:
- extract the files using RPGViewer
- give the files extensions (very important) with DMC4Extract.exe
- convert the textures using DMC4Tex.exe

More is still to come.

and will there be a way to repack the arc files?

Hi,
I wrote a Mod -> Obj converter (because obj file format is simple). For me it's enough because I'm planning to make a Direct3D viewer (not mod the game).

If 3ds max is the most used here then I'll write an import plugin, other wise (maya or something else then I'll just write a Mod to OBJ converter, the problem with this is that 3dsmax doesn't handle normals so there is data lost when using Max...)

Right now I'm fighting against a deadly virus on my computer so there will be some delays on the work.

text files are the ones with MSG2 extensions, I'll take a look at those later. About the repack thing, I don't know because the compression algorithm is unknown to me (I just used RPGViewer for DMC4, and I didn't try such a thing for Lostplanet)

Stay tuned here at Xentax because more is still to come!!!

This is fantastic news, although I'm sorry to hear about your virus. Personally, I use 3dsmax 7, but I would appreciate a mod to .obj converter! Will your tools retain all of the texture mapping info? (.mtl files?)

I will be waiting then this tool to extract the files from text and then be able to play.

Wanting to start much this translation.

The Brazil would be eternally happy and grateful.
