I was really going to boycot this overpriced demo of a game. I actually did up until now. This thread here is the sole purpose i bought it, straight and at no discount. Don't know who else I can talk for, but moddability adds enough value for me to buy a game i wouldn't have bought before.
I hope this isn't just an "oversight" on the programmer's part and Kojima decides to lock everything for Phantom Pain.

Of course they will lock everything for The Phantom Pain. Same way they did for Ground Zeroes and every other MGS game starting from 2.

I think you've misunderstood somewhere.

Theres no 'oversight' here at all, the game was locked, encrypted files, compressed formats and everything, people decrypted the formats. All of this is (to everyones knowledge) against the original developers wishes, people just got around that by being smart.

Of course depending on how large the modding scene reaches, if the devs discover it and are quite against it, then it wouldn't surprise me if they changed some formats for Phantom Pain.

Straight and at no discount, isn't the game only like 20 dollars anyway?

The guys who worked on this could probably crack a large number of games if they wanted to, but they only play with what interests them, MGS:GZ was one of those few.

Okay it seems you actually can launch the game without repacking G0S if you put files from data_0x dir into root game dir and remove g0s files. The only issue is the game will most likely end up on endless loading or crash at some point of the game because not all filenames are known so far.

this is the dumbest thing i've ever read anywhere for quite awhile. so you bought this prologue, which you consider a demo, at full price, because you thought modding added value to it.

then you "hope" that kojima makes modding impossible on phantom pain. are you completely mentally crippled? why would you hope for something like that, that goes against your own interests, and the interests of a huge number of people, including those who made it possible for you to enjoy the game?

I'm pretty sure he meant he hopes it isn't just a 'mistake' Konami made, and that they don't just suddenly lock it all up when Phantom Pain is released.

I'm still unsure what he meant by "oversight" since everything mod wise has been basically hacked in by taking apart the games files and changing the way it reads things, its not like they accidentally left the .g0s files as renamed zip files or something.

that's good. there is now 46 lua files left without known filenames. this filename list shouldn't take much longer to complete, should it?

I apologize if I made the impression of believing this game was particularly easy to mod.
Rereading my post, it certainly looked like i wanted to "reward" Kojima prod. for their support of modding, which is certainly not the case. To be clear, it was the progress i saw here that made me think the game could become enjoyable enough for me to overcome my disgust at the publisher to release such a short demo at (originally) full price.
I just hope the game developers stay ignorant (or indifferent) enough about matters here that all the progress you're making isn't rendered moot when Phantom Pain comes out.

It realize it was a pathetically cumbersome way of praising the work here, i should have kept it simple.

I've managed to identify two filenames in data_01.g0s... At least I think so - the textures seems to match :)

9ce24aeda49b.dds is cm_m0_w0_a1_c002_srm.dds
110aedb0f3a8.dds is cm_m0_w2_b1_c001_srm.dds

It's not much, I know, but every bit helps, right?

to those who cracked the models open already, what are the nude mod potentials for the existing assets? i'm just curious as people on steam have been asking about it. it seems paz is the only character with loose clothing, does she have an actual body model underneath or would it be shaved down to extremities and stomach geometry only since most of her body remains covered.

This is the EXACT reason I don't like releasing models anymore you're curious because people have been asking about it? Yeah right buddy

Wha?... You want a nude mod of Paz?! The tortured girl with bomb in her stomach? That Paz? :?

That's kinda... messed up.

Personally I wanted model of Big Boss, to try to make MGS3 sneaking suit, but now... I can wait. A long time. If you don't want to release anything cra0, hell, if you decide not to work on model exporter anymore, I completely understand.

Na I'm still working on it and will release it just a bit disgusted at some people on the net that turn models nude even worse kid models nude. Like this guy Croix who made a nude model of sunny
