Usually those check sums are in the containing file, meant to not allow corrupted files. In fact, I've rarely seen it hard coded.

Yeah, detours has been around for several years. It also doesn't work on assembly programs either. I found out you can write a program to make the kernel calls yourself, thereby bypassing the API.
