Is there any way when u extract the images, to make the folder and the image name the name of the item/monster/etc.? Like if u extract a blue snail, the image name that comes out will be named blue snail and so will the folder?

All the names are in String.wz. So you had to open at least two wz files at once (one for the pictures and one for the name). I won't implement that, because my tool is only for showing and browsing the wz files (it was not intended for extracting and/or connecting the several data parts).

Is someone interested in also breaking up the patch files?
I already know the first steps and the general structure of the files. But I don't know if we should make it public, because I don't want that they also change their patch format (like they did with their strings and pictures).

For some reason, this script isn't able to say what category an item is. For example, a Meba is a claw.. but it doesn't say that anywhere.

I know for sure that it's inside there somewhere because Rick uses it to get it. Bug?

Let me know.

Um, just having the client data to make your own private MapleStory server isn't going to cut it, you need to have the server data as well, which is currently unavailable. Without server data, things like quests and such will be missing, which would make your private server provide a less-than-adequate playing experience compared to the official MapleStory.

With WoW there is probably a larger and stronger community, more hands, lightens the work. There is also a lot of money involved with WoW, always a good incentive for people to invest their time...

A few things about that:
1) The official MapleStory is free, which reduces the incentives to make free private servers
2) Nexon may not appear "strong", but they know how to detect people that hack (especially hacking the server), if you didn't quite notice by the now-almost-extinct hacker community on Global
3) Plus, while extracting client data, etc. and sharing it isn't a punishable offense, hacking into a server is, and as I've said before, Nexon is pretty good at catching people
A culmination of those three means that for all the time MapleStory has been out, there is not even ONE fully-functional private server out there, and not much incentive exists to make one and keep one running (unlike in WoW, where you have to pay to play).

I agree. There's not much reason for a private server for MS as there is for WoW. It's not a good comparison as each case is different.

True, but some people just want to add their own content, items, quests, change things that frustrate them about the original server, change rules/spawn rates, etc... I think that is the case here.

[update]
fixed typo :D

By the way, hello?, it isn't realy nice to put a google adwords advertisement in your signature.... kind of rude trying to make money off of a community that is trying to help you...

XD! He isn't. It's just a random add that appears in the posts.

I have nothing against that. People may worry about cheating and little silly stuff like that but there are also serious people out there as well. I've seen forums be so anti-modding just because of a cheat phobia that could easily be controlled or avoided. I've always been the one against hindering a pursuit if it would help a game or add to the experience.

But for this it is met with several difficulties, however still. It could be interesting if made possible.
