Thank you John Doe for the pointer. It seems that what I have described in my opening post is 6 bit graphics. I have encountered rather unusual situation in the old game palette, where the values of Red Green and Blue do not exceed certain range. They all are from 0 to 60 or just about. Header size means that the picture date starts ater 1280 bytes or 1088 (for larger picture). Begining of the file probable palette. Ypu can open the larger picture as a RAW in greyscale size 512x512 header 1088 . If you convert that to index format and apply extracted palette you should get original...

Zoltan comes frequently to this forum which is very good thing. Thanks anyway for posting the link to his 3DObject Converter. His Project is becoming one of the most prominent and universal conversion utilities around. IMHO it could be even more popular with modders, if it include more 3D materials ...

Again, if I may, I would like to alert Zoltan Karpati to see this package. Possibly materials contained there could be sufficient to include 3dz format into his nearly universal 3D Object Converter. Also they could serve as an template how the format of the possibly new 3D file needs to be described...
