Re: Anyone want to dust off Simcity 2000? Looking for assist

Last month Dave Amos, a former land use planner and now PhD candidate at UC Berkeley, in the process of acquiring his City and Regional Planning degree, decided to blow the dust off SimCity 2000 and see how much his practical knowledge applies to the 25-year-old game. thanks Hi Ambren, Thank you fo...

Re: [PC] The Godfather 2 The Game

the version linked there was a packed executable that was likely a trojan. It was never a trojan, just antiviruses false-detected it. You know, I once made a simple program with only a couple lines of code to split an archive similar to this VIV and a big icon of the game it was for. And it was det...

Re: [PC] The Godfather 2 The Game

Finally, I've got it! The last program I needed was ToWav (site in Russian, just find the download button near the bottom). I did come across this program on Xentax before, but the version linked there was a packed executable that was likely a trojan. This one doesn't set off my virus scanner, altho...

Re: [PC] The Godfather 2 The Game

Ok, I've gotten much farther than I though! I'm currently trying to tackle one of the sound files, which has an extension exa.snu. The four byte file header is 03 08 00 04 which doesn't seem to convert to any ASCII very nicely. Just looking at the hex in general, it appears that there isn't much dat...

Future of MultiEx Commander?

I have to be honest, I haven't used MultiEx Commander at all but I just installed it now to start hacking away at a game archive. What is the future looking like for this program? It doesn't appear to run very well on Windows 10 and I'm wondering if there are any plans to work on compatibility and m...

Re: [PC] The Godfather 2 The Game

The problem is that I can't even open the VIV files, Rick's tools report that the magic is incorrect. Edit: I've been updating the OP with some information I'm currently gathering. Edit2: I've downloaded Visceral's sourcecode so I can start taking a look at it. He is expecting a magic number 0x42494...

[PC] The Godfather 2 The Game

Hi everyone, I'd love to get my hands on the soundtrack from The Godfather 2 The Game, and it seems like it uses a pretty common EA archive format, similar to what The Godfather and The Dead Space games used. This game has massive .VIV files at its root, then some other formats distributed throughou...

Re: Dead Space Audio File.

Sorry to be bumping an old-ish topic, but I'm trying to extract music from a game (Godfather 2 PC) that uses the .STR file format, which I believe may be similar to what Dead Space is using. I tried Rick's Visceral tool, but the StrUnpacker reports that it's reading in too much header information. D...

[WIKI] Merging categories "PC formats" and "Platform PC"

I was looking around the wiki to see if there was anything I could help out with, and I noticed that there are two similar-sounding categories: http://wiki.xentax.com/index.php?title=Category:PC_formats http://wiki.xentax.com/index.php?title=Category:Platform_PC As far as I can tell, they server exa...

Anyone want to dust off Simcity 2000? Looking for assistance

Hey everyone, I started a few personal projects, one of those involves writing a library to read *.SC2 files, or Simcity 2000 city save files. There's already a huge text file documenting it, although some mysteries remain. As you can see here , I started to move some of that document to the wiki, a...

Re: The future of the forum: Ideas, suggestions and general.

I think the fact that there even exists a forum dedicated to the research of game file formats is amazing. This forum is like an oasis in a desert.

Mail takes a bit to send, the hamsters are a little sleepy :)

Thanks for fixing that Mr. Mouse! Just one more active x control to register, and it's up.

This is a good question... I think I've been a member for awhile, was registration disabled?

Re: XeNTaX 25th Anniversary!

You'll probably get the missing control error on a 64-bit operating system - you need to get old of the .ocx, copy it into c:\windows\syswow64 and register it using regsvr32. Excellent, thank you, that was the solution. I also had to make sure I was running command prompt as administrator before I ...
