Not sure if anyone has had a look at https://www.heatreborn.com/en/ but it's a Source engine game and all the game data is stored in .heat files. At a glance it's either compressed or encrypted. FileSystem_stdio.dll doesn't have anything obvious (just all the usual Source .vpk/.zip/.xzp strings) but...

Did you ever get any further with this? I know that Source on the Xbox 360 uses LZMA too but the normal decompression seems to work.

A bit late I know, but do the file names mean anything or are they just random characters and the engine loads everything in the Data directory.

I'll echo the sentiments on hoping for an archive if the worst happens.

Not sure - is it possible to use a Steam depot downloader to get previous versions of a game? I thought with Steam API v2 you could and probably not with Steam API v3 but I'm not sure.
