thx for ur replies. lots of interesting and helpful information inside. my problem just is, that ive for example opened some file wiv hexworkshop (yeah it rawks !) and also found some kinda pattern in there...BUT what to do now? im a bit lost...i lack the skills to program some decompression engine :S

sounds for me like its some MS DOS program. jsut start the windows command prompt and then open the file there. start->accessoires-> command prompt. or something like that
